BREAKING NEWS :Paul Warne confirm the suspension of two best player…
Kenzo Goudmijn is the “perfect example” of Derby County’s evolution under Paul Warne, says former Rams captain Shaun Barker.
The 22-year-old midfielder has made a positive impact at Pride Park since joining the Rams from AZ Alkmaar during the summer. He has started all nine of the club’s Championship matches so far this season, quickly establishing himself as a centrepiece of Warne’s side.
He has also scored twice, netting Derby’s first goal in their 3-0 win against Bristol City on home soil and the winner in a 1-0 victory over Cardiff City at Pride Park.
The Rams continued their good start to the campaign with a 2-0 triumph over QPR on Saturday. And while Goudmijn was not on the scoresheet on this occasion – Curtis Nelson and Marcus Harness both on target – Barker still felt the Dutchman was one of Derby’s best players on the pitch.
Speaking on Rams TV after the final whistle, Barker said: “When we are talking about a team that has gone from, no disrespect, not as technical over the last couple of years with Paul and being a little bit more direct, being a bit more passionate, a bit more aggressive, he started to introduce players that can handle the ball and Kenzo Goudmijn is a perfect example.
“I thought he was tired (during the second half) and he needs to get up to speed in those last 20, 30 minutes. But his technical ability is class and I thought he stood above everyone else even though there were some exceptional performances out there.”
