Rangers transfer news latest as Joan Jordan Sevilla motivation becomes clear and Lammers makes Twente debut
Sevilla’s determination to move Joan Jordan on is perhaps even greater than Rangers’ desire to sign him, and for good reason.
The Ibrox club have reportedly had a loan bid accepted by the Spanish outfit after an initial offer was rejected, with the La Liga side demanding that the Ibrox club cover the midfielder’s wages in full. That stance may have softened, as a loan for the season with a €5million option to buy next summer has been deemed acceptable by Los Nervionenses.
But Sevilla are walking a financial tightrope in order to comply with La Liga’s 1:1 rules. That means that for every Euro they raise, they can reinvest one Euro back into the team. That includes salaries and as things stand, Sevilla are currently €40m over theirs. That explains Adnan Januzaj’s switch to Las Palmas and their eagerness to ship Jordan off to Ibrox. The £19.5million sale of Youssef En-Nesyri to Fenerbahce did little to help their cause with more cash needing to be slashed from their outgoings on wages.
Meanwhile Ibrox flop Sam Lammers made his FC Twente debut and then backed himself to put his Rangers misery behind him. The Dutch striker ended an unhappy spell at Ibrox where he netted just two goals in 31 appearances before resurrecting his career in his homeland with Utrecht on loan.
Twente snapped him up for £2.5 million and it was reported the 27-year-old has agreed to a significant drop in wages to play for the club. And, after making his bow in a 45-minute cameo in a friendly against German side Paderborn, Lammers can’t wait to get started at his new club in the Eredivisie.
He said: “It happened very quickly. I signed from Rangers on the Friday and made my debut the next day. But that’s the best way I think. I chose Twente over other clubs because of my conversations with the people at the club. I just got a certain feeling from them. They have big plans for the club and so do I.
