Steven Gerrard to Rangers: Americans ‘fond’ as doubts emerge after Leeds claim
Rangers may have their eyes on Steven Gerrard ahead of their potential takeover, but doubts have emerged after what has happened at Leeds United.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are in talks to buy majority shares at the Gers and take control at Ibrox.
Barry Ferguson replaced Philippe Clement as interim manager but has staked his claim to be appointed permanently after recent results.
The Bears’ icon has surprised many after the Light Blues beat Fenerbahce and Celtic in a matter of weeks, leading to more uncertainty around who the next manager will be.

The Americans are fond of former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
Rangers might not appoint Gerrard after American takeover
Cavenagh and the 49ers may not appoint Gerrard as the next Gers manager after completing their potential takeover, Mark Guidi says.
The Scottish journalist revealed the US consortium are fond of the Liverpool legend but could potentially opt for other options.
Guidi feels Daniel Farke’s involvement at Leeds shows the Americans might not want to appoint a “sexy” name in the Ibrox dugout once their arrival is official
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (18 March), the journalist said: “I think there is a part of the potential takeover people, if they do get it, that have a fondness for Gerrard. I believe that there’s something in that. However, at Leeds, they’ve got Farke. He knows his way about the English championship. He’s not sexy.

“I’m just not quite sure if they want to go down that road. They should be looking at all options. I wouldn’t be comfortable with the owners that are coming in to be all show business. That very rarely works.”
Ferguson should stay at Ibrox for next season
Ferguson has done enough to remain at Rangers beyond this season, in whatever capacity that may be.
The former Scotland international came to the Gers during a tumultuous period and has managed to change the mood around the team.
Billy Dodds, Allan McGregor and Neil McCann are accompanying the interim manager in the Light Blues’ dugout, which has evidently affected the squad’s spirit.
Patrick Stewart rightfully sacked Clement, and the decision to hand Ferguson the reins has paid dividends.
The Bears still have something to look forward to this season as they face Athletic Club in the Europa League quarter-finals, although beating them will be tough.
If the Glaswegian outfit do manage to get past the La Liga outfit and go further in the European competition, the Gers icons should definitely be handed a short-term deal.
Gerrard won the Light Blues’ first league title in 10 years, and fans will never forget him for that, but the ex-England international’s struggles at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq don’t bode well for him.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Americans stick by Ferguson to maintain some stability, but anything can happen in the coming months.
