£4.7m Celtic target dumped from squad as director admits he wants to leave

Celtic finally completed the signing of Adam Idah on Thursday.

After weeks of negotiations and a couple of initial bids, the Scottish Premiership giants belatedly brought last season’s loan star back to the club where he won a league and cup double.

Adam Idah, joining permanently from Norwich City, could eventually set Celtic back £9.5 million. Should those add-ons be triggered, the speedy Republic of Ireland international will replace Odsonne Edoaurd as the most expensive signing in The Hoops’ storied history.

So, with a striker in the door at last – Kyogo Furuhashi is no longer Brendan Rodgers’ only number nine – focus now appears to be shifting elsewhere.

According to reports, midfielders are on the agenda now. Augsburg’s versatile rising star Arne Engels has been linked. As has Dundee’s very own captain marvel Luke McCowan, and Hammabry’s £7 million-rated wonderkid Bazoumana Toure.

And keep an eye on Tanner Tessmann, too.

While Fiorentina are leading the race, Italian reporter Gianluca di Marzio has also thrown Celtic into the mix for the Venezia playmaker.

Tessmann, valued at £4.7 million, is almost certain to leave the Serie A newcomers before the window closes.

Especially with Filippo Antonelli – Venezia’s general director – now confirming that the deep-lying, 6ft 2ins schemer will not be part of the squad for Sunday’s league opener away at Lazio.

“Tessmann is out of the Venezia project,” Antonelli explains to Il Gazzettino. “It’s been a difficult week, try to understand me. I’m sorry above all for the player, for the situation he’s put himself in.

“At the moment, he’s out of the list of players available for (coach Eusebio) Di Francesco, but it’s his choice. It doesn’t depend on us.”

Antonelli admits that the door is not closed for Tessmann to stay and reclaim a place in Di Francesco’s plans. But, as things stand, the speculation appears to have become as a distraction to the former FC Dallas man.
